Baldwin, GA (January 25, 2022) – Six people sustained injuries in a DUI accident that happened on a major highway in Baldwin on Sunday evening, January 23.
According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened on US-441 around the area of Industrial Boulevard. Police confirmed that a 37-year-old woman was traveling north on the highway in her Hyundai Sonata. At that time, an Acura TSD driven by a 23-year-old woman, was traveling north in front of the Hyundai. The Hyundai was following the Acura too closely and struck the vehicle from behind. The Hyundai then rotated off the side of the road, where it struck a tree.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. A total of six people were injured as a result of the collision. One of the passengers, identified as a 6-year-old, was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. Their conditions are not known at this time.
Police confirmed that the driver of the Hyundai was driving under the influence of drugs. They were charged, though these charges are not yet known.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
